WILLIAM ARKWRIGHT

Antonio Pisanello (1395-1455?) - Vision of St. Eustace

"The first likeness of a pointing-dog that I have found is a pencil sketch of a head by an Italian, Pisanello (...), which is supported by a painting attributed to Titian (1477-1576), and by a picture by Bassano (1510-1592), at Madrid. The scene of this last is laid in the Garden of Eden; and here in a corner is a "bracco" staunchly pointing partridges"

[William Arkwright, in The Pointer and His Predecessors]
